Following on from my earlier post (here and here) on the in-between or interim spaces, here’s another example from Rotterdam. De tussentuin, which translates to 'the interim-garden: a garden realized for two years after a building block was demolished. A group of residents, including a landscape-architect together developed the plan for this garden. They organized some money from the housing corporation, got running water from an adjacent café-restaurant, and got woodchips from chopped down trees in another part of Rotterdam. Bringing it all together has resulted in a marvelous garden. But there is more to this temporary space than gardening. It even has its own music-stage. On this stage all kinds of music played by musicians from across Rotterdam are given the opportunity to perform. All in all a very nice green space in one of the most densely populated parts of Rotterdam.
After this series of inter-spaces, I will shortly write a blog on inter-persons as part of my exploration of the in-between.
