We are at the end of week 1 on the Massive Online Course on Connectivism (a learning theory). There are over 2000 participants now .... I decided to turn off the introduction post emails from Moodle in about 10 minutes - 495 emails....
Stephen Downes who is moderating the course with George Siemens has been blogging about how the week has gone. The concept of connectivism is a controversial one, and there have been some pretty spirited postings on the forums challenging the whole idea - even before the course had even started.
Stephen's observation amused me:
"Well, I’ll say right off that I think i allowed myself to be pulled into the Moodle discussion too much. It’s seductive - the system defaults to sending you these emails, and you start reading them with the best of intentions, and then, someone was wrong on the internet and, of course, must be corrected immediately. This happens once or twice on the first day, a dozen times on day five. Ack!"
