At the completion of French artist Pierre David's residency last May at the Modern Art Museum of Bahia in Brazil, he left behind a interesting and thoughtful exhibition celebrating color and the uniqueness of multiracial cultures.
In Naucier, Pierre, commenting on racism, photographed 40 people, employees of the Musuem and art students from El Salvador, and displayed their images in classic color swatch fashion. Each individuals color was also formulated into a paint.

I discovered a brilliant article on AIGA (Thanks to Randy for leading me there yesterday). The author is Steven Heller who is co-chair of the Designer as Author MFA and co-founder of the MFA in Design Criticism at School of Visual Arts.
His discussion on motivational speakers is really sharp, perhaps even a little harsh, but working in the area of personal development myself, I know exactly where he is coming from. His final paragraph reflects my own thinking to perfection . . . Steven may be talking about design, but . . .
"After reading Design I feel a bit shucked and jived. And believe me, I tried to be tolerant—really, I did! So maybe it is just me. Maybe I find it hard to believe that being formulaically told what to do will make my work, my life, better. Still, I believe that we all must find our own answers—our own blissful motivation—for ourselves. Or maybe you should take two bromides and call me in the morning."
Writing in the London Financial Times, serial entrepreneur Luke Johnson, Chairman of Channel 4 throws a life-line to anyone sapped by short-termist miserabilism:
Humankind makes progress because some people believe in a great future. Inventors, entrepreneurs and optimists initiate advances that create jobs and improve our welfare...optimists have the last laugh - history shows they are always the long-run winners.
I didn't understand this until I checked here. Now I do and I like it a lot. Homo Ludens succeeds through play.

Yes, this is cheesy. And yes, a little bit pious. But in this expression, French Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro did capture a value that can only be called Thriving.
