In honour of Ada Lovelace, born December 1815, and the writer of the world's first computer programme, and in the same month as International Women's Day, this post is to give a heads up and a round of applause to women's achievements in science and technology.
Here at the RSA, we are priviledged to be associated with many amazing women through our Fellowship, and we're currently running an initiative to raise awareness of the RSA among women, and highlight some of our work to address gender related issues.
The image above is of Mrs Wyndham's improved cross-bar level, designed in 1796 tor the easy raising of large weights. As Mrs Wyndham succinctly says "I assure you, it has proved of great use, and the workmen all approve of it very much". The enterprising Mrs Wyndham was awarded the Silver Medal from the RSA for her invention.
